This play has no known connection to Edward Alleyn, although it may have been in the repertory of one or more of the acting companies with which he was associated, or the play may have been performed at the Fortune Theatre. If the play was not bequeathed to Dulwich College by Alleyn, it most likely was bequeathed by the College's later benefactor, William Cartwright the younger, the son of one of Alleyn's acting colleagues and friends. Cartwright later professed great affection to Alleyn, and The Telltale may have been among the one hundred play manuscripts left to Dulwich by Cartwright, nearly all of which were later dispersed to other public and private libraries.
R. A. Foakes produced an edition of the play for the Malone Society (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1960). Also see the Digital Essays.
